Bringing a unique take on modern femininity with her signature rainbow aesthetic and unfiltered use of color and print, Olivia Rubin flies the flag for British design. We caught up with the London-based designer to find out where she gets her inspiration from, why she partnered with ELEMIS and what skincare means to her as a busy mum of two…

How did the Olivia Rubin brand come to life?

I am a married mother of two and started my brand 3 years ago when my second daughter was around 6 months old. I have always loved being colorful and creative, and these attributes were channelled into the growth of my label. I was born and raised in London, which is very much a part of both the brand and me.

Where do you get your design inspiration?

Rainbows are my main source of inspiration, with color being a key aesthetic to the brand. I am also inspired by all the women in my life, and the people I meet and see in everyday life.

Describe your signature look in 3 words?

Colorful, feminine, individual.

How did you discover ELEMIS?

I have always taken care of my skin and feel it’s so important to invest in high quality products that are gentle on the skin. Years ago, I was given a few ELEMIS heroes to try and since then I haven’t looked back!

What’s your favorite ELEMIS product?

When did you become serious about skincare?

My mum has always been a skincare fanatic, so I grew up watching her daily routine and have seen the incredible effects of that. I think I took on the same obsession since I was a teenager.

What does a good, consistent skincare routine mean to you?

Having skin that feels great contributes to that feel-good feeling. Establishing a daily routine is so simple and can achieve visual results so quickly, which has a knock-on effect with confidence and wellbeing.

How do you balance the demands of being a mother and having a brand?

Getting a balance is really tricky! I try and be as organised as I can with mine and my girls’ schedules' so that I don’t miss quality time with them, but also invest enough time at work. Having a daily routine is always reassuring and I make sure I drop them at school every day and it helps that they’re at an age now where they can understand that the time I spend on work is key to me building a successful brand. I want to install that work ethic into them growing up.

What do you look for in a brand partner?

Authenticity and positivity. I think it’s so important that each time I collaborate with a brand it’s authentic, so I only work with brands that I use or have a genuine interest in.
