To celebrate International Women’s Day this year, Women for Women International hope to light up the internet with inspiring women. Join in by simply updating your profile picture to that of a woman who inspires you and then post, tagging five friends to encourage them to do the same.
For ELEMIS Co-Founder, Oriele Frank, there are three particular women who have inspired her and who she will be celebrating on International Women’s Day:
“My grandmother 'Trixie' Frank, who was living in Amsterdam raising three young boys when war broke out, is a real source of inspiration for me. As part of a non-practising Jewish family, she resiliently managed to survive three concentration camps, and out of 15,000 children sent to the final camp only 93 survived, three of whom were her boys. It is a miracle I am here today!
When your family survives an atrocity like this, you have a much deeper understanding of the simple values of life: Freedom, peace, health and family. You can read more about Trixie and my family’s story here.
I was recently inspired by watching the author, J.K.Rowling, deliver her Harvard commencement speech about the importance of failure and success. What I love about her is that even with all the fame and fortune, she has kept a sense of dignity and pride and remained true to her values.
Finally, my Co-Founder and friend, Noella Gabriel, who I have worked with at ELEMIS for 24 years, is without a doubt, an inspiration. It has been quite a journey, 'living the brand' every day, from a small seed start-up, to a large, globally respected British skincare brand. As business women, we have strived to build this brand in a highly competitive environment, constantly learning, evolving and growing every day. Noella came from adversity losing both her parents at a very young age, but her passion, drive, hunger to learn and sense of family never waivers. She is an inspiration to all women to be strong, seize the opportunity, and be true to yourself.”
ELEMIS believes that Women For Women International facilitates real change because women can literally transform their families, communities - and ultimately - their nations through education. Giving women the power to be financially independent, to start businesses and to send their children to school has a knock-on effect which brings long-term stability to war-torn communities.
That’s why we will continue to support their initiatives in 2017 with a donation of £30,000 and an additional sponsoring of 12 more women on the Women for Women International year-long training programme.
For one member of the 2016 class sponsored by ELEMIS, the dream of setting up her own business once she has saved up, is closer on graduating. She said, “I am so grateful for the support, for helping me find a way to stand taller and become stronger.” Her words are hugely encouraging and only serve to inspire us too.
