Suki Waterhouse’s make-up artist reveals how to get camera-ready…
Most of us are unlikely to spend our lives flitting from red carpet to red carpet in an endless whirl of sparkly gowns, even sparklier jewels and skin so glowing it outsparkles them all. And yet, there’s something fascinating - addictive even - about examining celebrities on the red carpet. And scrutinising just how they look so flawless.
Luckily, ELEMIS fan and make-up artist to Alicia Vikander, Saoirse Ronan and Suki Waterhouse, Kelly Cornwell agreed to share her insider tips. So whether you’re getting ready to face the paparazzi or simply your own Smartphone, you’ll be camera-ready. Over to Kelly…
1. Good Skin Is Key
Good skin is essential to any make-up look, and it’s always worth spending a little extra time perfecting your skin before application.
Insider tip: If you do have dry patches, make sure to exfoliate beforehand to prevent your base from clinging to these areas (try Papaya Enzyme Peel). Follow with moisturiser. Pro-Collagen Marine Cream is a favourite amongst my celebrity clientele. It works really well as a make-up base and creates a dewy canvas.
2. Address The Eyes
I never apply make-up on a celebrity client without first using a mask to soothe and hydrate the eye area. Pro-Collagen Hydra-Gel Eye Masks are so lightweight they're ideal for my kit, and because of their cooling and de-puffing properties they’re perfect for those moments when you need results – fast!
Insider tip: The Danish Girl’s Alicia Vikander and Brooklyn’s Saoirse Ronan can’t get enough of Pro-Collagen Hydra-Gel Eye Masks.
3. Get The Glow
Prepping skin for the red carpet is all about adding moisture and illumination. I start with Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm (a favourite of Suki Waterhouse) to remove all traces of make-up and impurities.
Insider tip: Don’t resist using a primer. An illuminating primer such as Pro-Radiance Illuminating Flash Balm is light reflective without being sparkly and really pumps up that glow.
4. Don't Forget Your Neck
It’s important not to neglect this area, especially if you’re wearing something low-cut. Apply your product using upward strokes, going against gravity to lift the area. Products with a lighter texture like Pro-Collagen Neck & Décolleté Balm are perfect as they simultaneously firm, smoothe and hydrate.
Insider tip: Take the product up to the chin and along the jawline, using the palm of the hand to prevent dragging this delicate area.
