Mayday, Mayday: tips for when your skin is crying out for help

When your skin is behaving badly it can be difficult to know what to do to calm it down.

Changes in various routines can contribute to skin flaring up including a change in:

  • Skincare
  • Diet
  • Stress levels
  • Commute
  • Season
  • Hormones
  • Sleep

Try to track any changes you have made which may be having a direct effect on your skin.

Stress is particularly bad for creating inflammation so wherever possible, try to ensure that you are putting mechanisms in place to avoid stress in your life – whether that’s leaving for work a little earlier to avoid the rush or making sure that you’re shutting down for bed at a reasonable time to get a good night’s sleep.

As tempting as it is to cover bad skin with make-up, this may only lead to further blocked pores or dry patches. Going easy on the make-up for a few days will allow your skin to breathe and help it to repair itself. Don’t forget that make-up brushes for foundation and concealer need washing at least once a week to remove make-up build-up and any bacteria which could be making its way back onto your skin every time you try to cover it up.

As for skincare, your skin needs to re-balance so give it a break from the usual routine if you are using numerous products. Try to keep a simple cleansing-toning-moisturising programme in place and most importantly: be patient. Your skin type will determine which products to use. We recommend:

Rehydrating Rosepetal Cleanser and Rehydrating Ginseng Toner for dry skin.

All skin types will benefit from Cellular Recovery Skin Bliss Capsules to rebalance moisture levels. The pink day capsules are scented with reviving Rose Absolute and and the green evening capsules are scented with calming high altitude Lavender. These aromatics were chosen specifically for their ability to induce a sense of wellness and are all part of the experience, you will immediately feel more relaxed helping to lower those stress levels. Massaging the nourishing oils into your skin will improve circulation and soothe your skin.

If you want to layer up with a moisturiser, Hydra-Balance Day Cream is anti-oxidant rich but ultra-light for all day hydration and suits normal to combination skin. For dry skin Hydra-Boost Day Cream is a perfect match but if your skin is in need of intense hydration you may want to try S.O.S Emergency Cream. In fact, as the name suggests, this intensive daily moisturiser will help with all skin complaints, from blemish prone skin through to sensitive skin. Key ingredients of Willow, Myrrh and Lavender will instantly soothe and help to protect skin from the effects of environmental stresses.

Your skin will be back to feeling and looking its best in no time.

Keep these skin savers on hand for emergencies:
