A month into 2016 and already, many of our New Year’s resolutions are starting to slide. Yet one thing I did commit to was walking more. Inspired by Shirley MacLaine’s book, The Camino, I decided to tick the Camino de Santiago walk in north-west Spain off my bucket list.
Following in the footsteps of the pilgrims, I walked amongst the eucalyptus woods through all terrains and weather conditions, before arriving at the final destination of Santiago. This experience of walking was incredibly grounding and to my surprise, helped me gain both a greater sense of self – and a renewed appreciation of the beauty of what surrounds us. It truly was an inspiring way to start the year.
The powerful experience of walking and getting into a rhythm with your breath is profound. This breath is your cleansing breath. And in fact, we try to recreate a little of this at the start of every ELEMIS body treatment by encouraging clients to connect with their breath and in turn, with themselves.
My journey to Santiago allowed me to reconnect with my own cleansing breath and reminded me of the importance of staying grounded
So here’s three more walks to inspire you and help you reconnect with your cleansing breath...
Stowe House, Buckinghamshire – an amble around this beautiful estate will afford you glimpses of the landscape design of Capability Brown, with features such as a lake, a waterfall, a gothic temple, and a secret garden.
La Roche, Belgium – reconnect with nature via a walk along forest tracks. This area is particularly dazzling in autumn.
The Grand Canyon Rim to Rim Trail, America – one of the world’s most classic walks stretching 44 miles over two-billion-year-old rock formations.
