...That is the question! Forget what you think you know about detoxing. The truth – and an exclusive discount - lies here…
We cleanse, you cleanse, celebrities cleanse.
It won’t have escaped your notice that in the last few years, ‘cleansing’ has been presented as the panacea of optimum health and beauty. But does it really work? And how should we go about it?
Enter stage left Christophe Reissfelder and Rebekah Hall, founders of the ‘dynamic drinks’ brand, Botanic Lab, that has got tongues wagging and taste buds tingling on the beauty editor circuit.
We asked them to bust some myths and set us on the path to purity…
What’s the Botanic Lab USP?
‘We use techniques and rare ingredients to create concoctions that are out of the ordinary. Botanic Lab was an idea born of Christophe’s passion for plants and the way in which the body responds to them. Our cold-pressed method is also a superior way of extracting juice to maintain nutritional content and bring about maximum health benefits’.
You concoct ‘dynamic drinks’. How do you define these?
‘By “dynamic”, we mean drinks that you can’t simply produce at home with a blender and some fruit and vegetables.
‘There are two essentials for a dynamic drink - flavour and function. For example, our Isotonic is ideal for rehydration during or after sport, (or when you have a hangover!). It’s also activated charcoal, which acts as a mild gut cleanser. Layer on top of that the use of Japanese Yuzu and Raw Cane to create the unique flavour and you have a truly dynamic drink’.
‘Cleansing is a concept that has accrued a lot of misinformation. The body is an efficient machine and its ability to cleanse and regenerate itself is amazing.
‘Our Cleanse programme provides the body with a short period (no longer than 3 days) of rest from heavy digestive work to provide an optimum environment for cleansing and repairing the system. Food doesn’t have to be excluded entirely and you certainly shouldn’t go hungry. It also provides an intense period of exposure to plants and can help to build a taste for this kind of drink. By the end, you’ll actively want to incorporate more of them into your daily life’.
What are your top tips for cleansing safely and effectively?
‘Our cleanse is simple and requires no preparation. In our opinion, creating strict rules and guidelines is counter-productive. Listen to your body. If it really needs fuel, make appropriate and considered food choices, (of which we make recommendations)’.
Where do you get inspiration from when creating your botanical tonics?
‘The starting point is identifying a botanical ingredient that we want to introduce. A flavour is then built around that botanical to complement or enhance it. This isn’t always a simple process as quite often the botanical ingredient tastes revolting!’
What’s the one Botanic Lab juice our lives shouldn’t be without..?
‘Tricky! Everyone has a different favourite. Either Isotonic as it’s so refreshing and an absolute essential for a gym session. Or possibly Botanic 2. You can really taste the woodiness of the Panax Ginseng that very much complements the grapefruit and thyme’.
What’s your hero botanic ingredient and why?
‘Siberian Ginseng. It’s an adaptogen so you can take it in the morning and it will give you energy, or in the evening and it will help you to relax by calming the nervous system’.
What’s next for Botanic Lab?
‘We have some exciting product developments. We are about to launch KOLA+ exclusively to Harrods – a truly next generation cold-pressed juice. In the autumn we will be collaborating with the lovely Amelia Freer on our next drink. Watch this space!’
