GOING COCO... 5 things to do with a coconut

14th July 2015

The humble coconut: A fruit not a nut, native to Malaysia, Polynesia and South Africa – it was named by the Spanish explorers who discovered it and in Sanskrit is known as ‘Kalpavriksha’, meaning ‘tree which gives all that is necessary for living’. So multi-talented there seems to be no end to its chameleon-like capabilities, here’s our top five ways with coconut to try now…

1. Highlight

If you’d like your cheekbones to stand to attention but prefer not to have a face full of shimmer, take a tip from professional make up artists and practice ‘oil sculpting’. Simply pitter-patter a smidgen of coconut oil onto the tops of cheekbones, through brows and on your Cupid’s Bow to bounce the light and bring those features to life.

2. Smooth

Marvel as your razor glides over skin with the greatest of ease after you slather a thin layer of coconut oil over your legs. Delivering a close shave and a super dose of skin-quenching hydration, smooth and glossy pins will soon be yours.

 3. Drink

Move over flat white, we now take our coffee bulletproof. Dedicated followers of health and fitness trends believe that adding a teaspoonful of unsalted, grass-fed butter and coconut oil prolongs the mind-focusing benefits of caffeine – whilst simultaneously helping you to avoid the jitters.

4. Swill

Made famous by goddess of goodness, Gwyneth Paltrow, ‘oil pulling’ is an ancient Ayurvedic technique that involves swilling coconut oil around your mouth for 20 minutes in a bid to improve gum health and draw out toxins from the body overall. We recommend building up your stamina by swilling after you clean your teeth for a few minutes every few days. Be sure to spit the oil out when you start to flag.

5. Munch

On Coco-mole. Blitz two avocadoes, a teaspoon of coconut oil, a squeeze of lemon and a pinch of chilli – and just add crackers.
