If you have struggled with balancing your skin and controlling breakouts for years, you may now be grateful for the excess oils that once plagued your skin as they will have helped prevent too much lining and wrinkling. What you may have been left with though are scars that make the surface of your skin uneven or else left pigmented areas which stand out.
The skin forms new collagen fibres from naturally occurring protein in the skin. These fibres are produced to mend any damage to the skin - for example, from trying to squeeze those unwanted spots! This then results in a scar as the new skin tissue will have a different texture and quality than the surrounding tissue.
There are different kinds of scars, some are flat and pale, and some can be raised when the skin produces too much collagen. In some cases, scars can have a sunken or pitted appearance. This kind of scarring occurs when underlying structures supporting the skin (for example, fat or muscle) are lost. Then we have hyperpigmentation scars that can be the result of many things but they tend to occur after a breakout. Once the initial breakout has healed, it can leave behind a dark spot on the skin which may look like a scar.
At ELEMIS we have two different ranges that will help to improve both uneven skin scarring that you can feel or pigmentation scarring that you can see.
It’s easy to slot both of these ranges into your existing routine and sometimes you can use them both at the same time.
In the morning cleanse your skin with Dynamic Resurfacing Wash and remember to always tone afterwards. In the evening use your existing cleanser and then, as a double cleanse, wash with the Dynamic Resurfacing Wash.
Introduce Tri-Enzyme Resurfacing Serum morning and evening under your existing day cream and under Dynamic Resurfacing Night Cream in the evening.
Replace your existing night treatment with Dynamic Resurfacing Night Cream.
Or if it is more the case of pigmentation scars that you can see then opt for the White Brightening Even Tone range of products.
In the morning cleanse your skin with the White Brightening Even Tone Cleanser and then tone with the White Brightening Even Tone Lotion. In the evening, cleanse the skin with your existing cleanser and then use the White Brightening Even Tone Cleanser and Lotion (this lotion replaces your existing toner).
Introduce White Brightening Even Tone Serum morning and evening under your existing day and night cream.
No matter what specific scarring you are concerned with, I would recommend this two-step mask treatment twice a week. On a cleansed and toned skin, apply a thin layer of Papaya Enzyme Peel over the face and neck (making sure to avoid the eyes and lips directly), and leave on the skin for 10 minutes before rinsing off. Tone the skin and then apply Dynamic Resurfacing Gel Mask, apply 1-2 pumps of this mask over the face and neck area (avoiding eyes and lips) leave on the skin for 10 minutes.
I have to say, this is my favourite mask to use both personally and in treatments. You will feel a tingling on application but it's important to realise that this is not a reaction, more of an action on the skin, as it’s your own skin’s enzymes coming to life. After 10 minutes, simply rinse off and tone or use your lotion and apply your moisturiser. The look and the feel of your skin will be transformed and the more often you use it, the less tingling you will experience - your skin starts to perform as it should. That's the beauty of ELEMIS, we don't put the skin into early retirement, we get it back to work!
