How Much Skincare Product Should You Use?

25th September 2017

Pea-sized, coin-sized, a teaspoon, blob, or spill…

While many of us focus on what we are applying to our skin, we rarely bring our awareness to how much product we are applying. Which could mean that you’re not only reducing your product’s efficacy, you’re also at risk of literally washing your money down the drain by using too much each time. Below, we have put our favorite products on a perfectly balanced diet to help you control how much skincare product you use.

How much cleanser to use:

Just half a teaspoon or a 20 pence piece-sized dollop of ELEMIS Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm is enough to remove impurities and makeup. Warm it between your fingertips before sweeping it over the face and massaging it into the skin, then remove it using the accompanying luxury cleansing cloth and warm water. Your skin will feel clear but soft and totally nourished from this perfect portion size.

How much exfoliator to use:

ELEMIS Gentle Rose Exfoliator is aptly named—it’s formulated to be perfectly gentle. Micro-spherical jojoba beads softly buff away dead surface cells to reveal healthier, more radiant ones beneath, but it only takes a small amount to complete this delicate process. So, stick to a blob the size of a 20 pence piece or half a teaspoon.

How much serum to use:

Hyaluronic acid is an ingredient containing molecules that single-handedly hold up to 1000 times its own weight in moisture. This impressive feature is just one of the reasons why a mere two pumps of ELEMIS Hydra-Boost Serum will hydrate your skin, leaving it noticeably softer, smoother, and more supple.

(From top left clockwise: Exfoliator, Face Mask, Serum, Eye Cream, Cleansing Balm, Moisturiser)

How much eye cream to use:

It’s easy to think that more is more. Yet when applying eye cream, almost the opposite is true. Apply too much and you’ll actually wake up with puffy eyes. Remember, the skin around your eyes is not only thinner and more delicate than that of the rest of your face, it’s also a place where fluid likes to accumulate. Apply too much eye cream and you will accentuate the problem. So, save your ELEMIS Pro-Collagen Eye Renewal and use one pump only for both eyes—the equivalent of a grain of rice.

How much moisturiser to use:

Think of your skin like a sponge—it has a limit to what it can absorb. Pile on too much moisturizer and it’ll simply sit on the surface, leaving you wishing you hadn’t wasted the precious anti-aging actives in our award-winning ELEMIS Pro-Collagen Marine Cream. Hailed as a beauty hero by none other than Vogue magazine, you’ll require only a pea-sized portion of product to smooth over your entire face for maximum absorption and optimal results. This is also why we included a handy application spatula, to help you judge just the right amount.

How much face mask to apply:

ELEMIS Fruit Active Rejuvenating Mask is so instantly effective at restoring skin plumpness and radiance, we like to save ours for special occasions. We like to maximize the strawberry and kiwi extract benefits by applying a good, even amount covering our entire face and neck. Use the equivalent of a full teaspoon—or the size of a 10 pence coin—and it’ll get your skin glowing before that date, party, or vacation.
