The TV presenter on looking good when you’re burning the candle at both ends… At just 29, Olivia Wayne has already graduated with a degree in American and Canadian Studies, interned at Warner Bros records in the U.S. then returned to London to work in Fashion PR for high-profile brands such as Stella McCartney. All before taking the hot seat as a presenter for Sky Sports News.Even more impressive than that, her current job involves erratic hours that frequently mean her alarm bleeps into life as early as 3am. So because she’s stylish, successful – and full of beans – we asked her for her top tips for maintaining a healthy work/life balance…
- You wake up very early (3am?!) – how do you kick start your energy at that time?
‘It’s taken me a while to figure out how to kick start my mornings and feel energised. Up until very recently, I’d have hot water with lemon, followed by some nuts when I arrived at work. Now though, I find a protein shake en route to work, followed by the hot water with lemon is the best way forward for ultimate energy!’
- What are the make up products you rely on to make you look wide-awake, even at odd hours?
‘The makeup team at work know that I’ll always ask for more under eye concealer and more bronzer! I favour Illamasqua or Bobbi Brown concealers and my absolute favourite bronzer is Chanel Soleil Tan – it isn’t glittery or grubby looking. Plus, I always use lashings of mascara – currently Mac Haute & Naughty Lash. I have recently discovered the miraculous drink, Skinade too – it’s a game-changer!’
- We see from your Instagram account, you’re into juices. What are your favourite recipes?
‘I really love juice and smoothies. I try to not have fruit in them as I’m trying to cut down on my sugar intake. A typical green juice for me includes spinach, kale, cucumber, lime, mint, ginger, avocado, chia seeds, flaxseed, maca powder and water. Failing that, Press and Botanic Lab do amazing drinks!’
- What would we always find in your fridge?
‘I generally follow a low gluten, low diary, low sugar guideline. My fridge is full of eggs, green veggies, humus, protein energy balls, which I make for my husband to snack on too. Then lots of coconut water, almond milk, salmon, chicken. If you rummage, you may find some 80% dark chocolate and also homemade sugar free chocolates, which taste just like Rolos!’
- What’s your exercise schedule?
‘I work out with my trainer, Peter Cobby three times a week – we usually concentrate on strength and HIIT training. Then I like to do yoga, spinning and running on Hampstead Heath’.
- Favourite clothing brands to workout in?
‘I tend to stick to Nike footwear and Lululemon, Sweaty Betty, Reebok and H&M clothing. I also love to find new brands like Bandierfit, Charli Cohen and Whistles x Frame’.
- Your husband’s a DJ…has he passed on any great motivational music to you?
‘He continually introduces me to great music. Last month when I ran the Nike Women’s 10k, he created me the perfect playlist that built as the time passed to keep me going. He even recorded a little good luck message to spur me on!’
- Do you have regular beauty treatments?
‘Recently, I tried out a course of massage treatments, which helped boost drainage and circulation. Before my wedding, I also had a couple of hydrating facials to brighten my skin’.
- What three characteristics would you say you need to succeed in a career in television?
‘Resilience, determination, positivity’.
- Have you ever had any problems being a woman working in a man’s world?
‘Honestly, I’ve not had any problems due to being a woman working in a man’s world. I think the biggest frustration is that it’s still considered a man’s world!’
- What’s your mantra to live by?
‘Everything works out alright in the end. So if it’s not alright….it’s not the end!’
- Finally…what are you three favourite ELEMIS products?
