We talk to Lou and Em, the founders of A Style Album, the daily online destination for fashion finds, beauty tips, and lifestyle inspiration, to find out how it all started and what gives them energy and drive.
How do you know each other and why did you start the site?
We actually met through work. Em worked as a freelance stylist on a few of Lou’s fashion and advertising shoots, and we bonded over our love of fashion. We also have kids at similar ages and husbands who get on well, so that always helps!
We found we were always sharing fashion and style tips with each other, whether it was a girl wearing something in a different way on Instagram or seeing something in a store that we knew the other would love. Constantly texting images and links for inspiration with each other and amongst our friends, we felt encouraged enough to put it into a blog and see what happened. We’re both sharers, if we come across something - a new brand, restaurant or amazing hairdresser - we want to share the discovery! It made perfect sense to start A Style Album, a destination to find everything from fashion, beauty, travel and interiors on one platform. If we love and are inspired by it, we’ll be sharing it.
Which London venue is top of your list for energising, feel-good food?
We love finding new restaurants and cafés for our TRAVEL section on A Style Album. Granger & Co is always a great meeting spot, they serve the most amazing eggs and juices and we’ve just discovered Farm Girl on Portobello Road, which has a great selection of delicious healthy food in a cool and relaxed environment.
Where in the world do you go in order to feel full of beans?
It has to be Mallorca. We’ve both spent the past 5 or 6 summers out there together with our families. Friends come and go over the summer, we spend our days chilling out at little unspoilt beach coves drinking sangria and eating fresh fish, while the kids swim in the sea and play football all day. Idyllic! It really is an incredible island, plus you have the cool capital city of Palma which is great for shopping and sightseeing. We always head back to England feeling energised and inspired.
What's your go-to outfit for when you need to feel like you're firing on all cylinders?
Being comfortable whilst trying to look stylish is important to us. Hence why we usually opt for trainers teamed, this season, with a kick flare crop jean and a power blazer. I’d say that is definitely our fail-safe look.
Who in your life always makes you feel energised and why?
Each other. When you have good, strong women around you it can really help boost your mood and help you to know that you’re not alone in whatever issue you’re having to deal with. It’s great to be surrounded by people who don’t judge but who you know are there for you. Our friendships are very important to us, and we definitely feed off each other’s energy.
Which famous person would you say epitomises the very idea of what it is to give off amazing energy?
It has to be Beyoncé, that woman gives off so much energy. She’s a great role model - strong, fierce, confident and of course incredibly talented.
