NEW SEASON SKIN TANTRUMS

1st September 2015

How to glide through autumn with the greatest of ease…

We don’t know about you, but our skin is having one hell of a tantrum right now. Spots, dry patches, pigmentation, you name it – our complexions are having a wobble as the seasons slip from summer to autumn.

While summer air is generally more humid and moisture-rich, once the leaves begin to drop from the trees, cooler, autumnal air can be more arid – causing dryness, blocked pores, spots and even dermatological conditions such as eczema.

So here’s 8 top life hacks for halting those seasonal skin tantrums – and fast.

Rebalance: More often than not, trans-seasonal skin is simply confused – but instigating a re-balancing programme is the way to bring it back into line. The simplest way to do so is with a fantastic toner containing lavender. Our Balancing Lavender Toner re-boots the pH level of the skin in a gentle way, bringing order to complexion mayhem.

Resurface: When drier air leads to drier skin, occasional exfoliation is essential. Just make sure you skip course scrubs and opt for a gentle, enzyme-based resurfacer that’ll de-flake the outer layer and de-clog pores to prevent spots.

Take a skin duvet day: Skin is like bed linen (bear with us here). Because just as you switch your single sheet for a hefty winter duvet when the outside temperature plummets, so too your skin may need an extra thick layer of comfort with the onset of autumn.  A couple of drops of facial oil popped into an extra rich day cream should do the trick nicely.

Make a cleanser switch: Sometimes all it takes is a textural tweak to give those skin tantrums the heave-ho. Switching from a gel-based cleanser to a more creamy lotion or richer oil version can add – rather than strip – moisture from the skin, whilst simultaneously leaving it squeaky clean.

Beat the heat: Dryer, colder air and less frequent and lower levels of sun exposure can lead to a worsening of skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis when autumn and winter start to kick in. But as tempting as it is to linger in a super hot bath after a long day on your feet, desist – because hot water can exacerbate irritable skin conditions. Keep bath water to a warm temperature – and add some skin soothing magnesium salts to get the most out of your soak.

Get handy: In actual fact, our mitts have fewer oil glands than the rest of our body – so are vulnerable to dryness during winter. Keep a hand cream handy by your desk, by your kitchen sink, in your car glove compartment and on your bedside table so you can slather, slather and slather some more.

Go to seed: Pomegranate seeds have a high proportion of antioxidants and vitamins than red wine and even green tea. No wonder then, that the ancient Greeks believed they had secret beauty benefits. As the pink jewel in the fruit bowl crown is just coming into season, sprinkle them on your breakfast, over salads and into heartier, warming stews.

Pop a pill: Sometimes, no matter how much water you drink, your skin still looks and feels dehydrated. Which is where hyaluronic acid – a moisturising factor found naturally in the body that holds 1000 times its own weight in water – comes in. So as well as packing an external skin punch with our new Pro-Collagen Super Serum Elixir, you can also take hyaluronic acid in supplement form to maximise your hydration from the inside out – and put paid to that dryness once and for all.

Here’s our three top product picks to sort out those skin tantrums – starting today…
