Travel Skincare Essentials

3rd May 2017

Whether you’re making summer holiday plans to escape to the sun or enjoying a break in the UK, it's important that your skin does not get neglected.

Travel exposes your skin to a whole range of conditions that involve sun, dust, saltwater and humidity at beach travel destinations and dehydration or dry winds here in the UK. So it's even more important that you maintain a good routine and don’t compromise on what you are using. Sometimes, it can feel like it’s easier to buy smaller versions of cheaper products for a short break but at ELEMIS we have the perfect travel sizes of all the products you need. Here are a few skincare tips that you should follow while you are on your summer trip.

Sun Protection

Whether you are on a beach or in a field camping, don’t forget to apply a quality sunscreen to your face. Sun exposure can be harmful whatever the location and is a prime cause of accelerated ageing and skin damage. Apply sunscreen to the body and face 20 minutes before you step out for the day to ensure it sinks in before sun exposure.

I love that an SPF version of Pro-Collagen Marine Cream is now available meaning you can simply apply your moisturiser in the morning and top up throughout the day as needed. A unique encapsulated blend that leaves no white streaks on the face, it offers evenly distributed broad spectrum UVA and UVB protection without compromise to the texture of the cream.

Face Mist to Tackle Dehydration

Using a face mist will help protect your skin from dry weather as it refreshes and hydrates your skin. ELEMIS toner can double as the perfect facial mist too. Balancing Lavender is for combination or oily Skin, Soothing Apricot is for sensitive or dry skin, and Rehydrating Ginseng is for dehydrated and mature skin.

Carry facial mist every time you go outside for sightseeing. A good facial mist contains floral extracts such as Sweet Betty Flower, and essential oils that benefit the skin and soothe the senses. Facial mist is a good solution for tired skin and refreshingly restores the glow of your skin after a hard day.

Cleanse Your Skin Daily

During the holidays we spend a lot of time outside visiting various sites in different locations. We also expose our skin to pollution and other harmful elements during outings. It is therefore essential to clean skin to avoid breakouts and other skin problems. This is the basis of all skincare regimens and it is important to increase how often you are doing this, even introducing double cleansing while you are venturing out on your holidays. Exotic locations cause new challenges for your skin and to cope with these challenges, cleansing is the best thing you can do to protect your skin. I would recommend our Smart Cleanse Micellar Water, as it effectively cleanses the skin, removing make-up and the daily build-up of skin pollutants, and all without the need for water. Perfect for you glampers!

Cleansing micelles, which attract both water and oil-based grime, are enhanced with a complex of natural surfactants derived from Apple amino acids, Rosehip Seed oil and Indian Soapnut to lift impurities from the skin.

Infused with organic English Rose water and soothing anti-oxidant rich Chamomile, skin is gently cleansed, whilst the natural moisture barrier is maintained, revealing a clear, radiant complexion, no matter how sensitive the skin.

Moisturise and Moisturise Again - Daily

The moisturiser you choose to use on holiday will need to keep your skin hydrated and balanced as well as nourishing the skin while you are travelling.

The perfect choice for me would be our SOS Emergency Cream. This intensive daily moisturiser can be used morning and evening. It has been formulated to soothe sensitive, dry, blemish-prone skin while replenishing skin’s hydration. A highly effective formula of Lavender Absolute, Willow, Centella Asiatica and Myrrh, it helps protect skin from the effects of environmental stresses whilst balancing and replenishing moisture levels. Often referred to as 'an ambulance in a bottle'.

Use Gentle Face Exfoliator

During holidays, exfoliation should be your top priority. Remember to exfoliate as part of your weekly beauty regimen.

A facial exfoliator removes dead skin, dust and dirt, as well as trapped sun cream, helping to prevent clogged pores. On holiday, we want our skin to glow with minimum make-up and for our tans to be even, so often we avoid exfoliating with the fear of scrubbing away our tans or worry it will aggravate sensitive skin. Papaya Enzyme Peel is perfect for the job with natural fruit enzymes of exfoliating Papaya and calming Pineapple, to smooth and clarify the complexion. This rinse-off exfoliating cream contains nourishing Milk Protein, anti-oxidant rich Vitamin E and Marine Algae to moisturise, repair and protect skin. Ideal for complexions which are sensitive or mature.

I hope that you can join me for my shows on QVC Monday 8th and Tuesday 9th May, when we will have some fantastic collections featuring some of these must-have holiday essentials with great savings.
